One distinction settles most cases, and product listings blur it constantly.
Bluetooth trackers — AirTag, Tile, SmartTag, Chipolo — have no GPS and no internet connection. They are located by other people's phones passing nearby. There is no position for them to send, so they cannot do geofence alerting through any third-party service.
GPS trackers with a SIM slot know where they are and have their own connection, so they can report on a schedule regardless of who is around. These are the ones that can work — though most speak a binary protocol over raw TCP rather than HTTP, which is why hardware support depends on the specific protocol.
