AirTags cannot work with Geoblip, or with any third-party tracking service. They also cannot send you an alert when something leaves an area. If that is what you need, an AirTag is the wrong product — and it is better to know that now than after buying four of them.
This page explains why, and what actually does the job.
No GPS. An AirTag has no satellite receiver. It does not know where it is.
No SIM, no internet. It has no way to send anything anywhere on its own.
Location comes from other people’s iPhones. An AirTag broadcasts a rotating Bluetooth identifier. Any nearby Apple device that hears it reports the encounter to Apple, encrypted. You then see the last place someone else’s iPhone happened to walk past it.
That design has real strengths — a year of battery from a coin cell, a $29 price, and remarkable coverage in cities. But it means there is no position for anyone to send you, and no server for a third party to receive one from.
The API does not expose location. Apple’s Find My Network Accessory Program lets manufacturers build accessories that appear in the Find My app. It does not give third-party services access to location data. That is a deliberate privacy decision by Apple, and it is not something a service can work around.

The critical row is “works without other people nearby”. An AirTag in a rural field, an empty industrial estate, or a yard at 3am may not be seen by any Apple device for hours. Exactly the situations where you most want to know something moved are the ones where the Find My network is thinnest.

If that is your problem, buy AirTags. They are cheap, the battery lasts a year, and they work well.
A phone app, if the thing you are tracking is a person who carries one. GPSLogger on Android or OsmAnd on either platform work with Geoblip today, cost nothing, and give proper GPS positions.
A SIM-based GPS tracker, for vehicles, trailers, equipment, or a child too young for a phone. These have real GPS and their own mobile connection, so they report on a schedule regardless of who is nearby. See Concox GT06N for a representative example and the current support status.
The trade is honest: GPS trackers cost more up front, need a SIM, and need charging. In exchange they actually know where they are and can tell you.
Tile, Samsung SmartTag, and Chipolo work the same way — Bluetooth plus a crowd-sourced network — and are equally unable to do geofence alerting through a third-party service, for the same reasons.
Anything described as a “Bluetooth tracker” or “item finder” is in this category. Anything described as a “GPS tracker” with a SIM slot is not. That distinction is the one that matters, and product listings blur it constantly. See geofencing for what the alerting actually requires.
Compatibility last verified 7 August 2026. Manufacturers change firmware and command syntax — if something here is wrong, the device's own documentation wins.
